What does end-of-life mean?
November 13, 2025
As of November 13, 2025, PostgreSQL® 13 will no longer receive security patches or bug fixes from the community. Your database systems will potentially be vulnerable to known security flaws.
The PostgreSQL® Community typically supports each major version for 5 years. PostgreSQL® 13 was released in September 2020, and its last update, 13.22, was released on August 14, 2025.
The risks
- No more security patches
- No bug fixes or improvements
- Compliance issues for commercial users
- Increased risk of cyberattacks
- Potential data breaches
Many companies are affected
PostgreSQL® Version 13 has been and is widely used by many companies worldwide. Despite its End-of-Life, many have not yet implemented or been able to implement the necessary migrations to a newer release. This will become a problem and can limit the company's resilience.
Lack of Experience
Many users lack the technical expertise for a secure upgrade
Lack of Time
IT teams are overloaded and cannot perform extensive migrations
Complexity
Production systems require careful planning and testing
The dangers of an unpatched database

No Bug Fixes
Known errors remain unresolved and can lead to system malfunctions and possible failures

Security Vulnerabilities
Newly discovered vulnerabilities are no longer closed

Attack Surface
Your systems can become an easy target for cyberattacks

Compliance Risks
Commercial users have problems with their certification requirements and possibly legal requirements.
