The German PostgreSQL Conference<\/a> (PGConf.DE) took place for the tenth time this year. The anniversary edition was hosted on April 21 and 22, 2026, at Haus der Technik in Essen. With more than 308 registrations, this was one of the larger events in this series and underscores the continuously growing development of the PostgreSQL community in German-speaking countries. Each year, the conference brings together developers, administrators, and decision-makers and serves as a central platform for professional exchange, networking, and up-to-date insights into the ongoing development of PostgreSQL<\/a>. <\/p>\n

This year, we participated as a Gold Sponsor and were able to attend on site with a total of seven colleagues and a partner. The booth was a joint effort between credativ and Splendid Data<\/a>, highlighting our close collaboration and shared exchange. <\/p>\n

This year, the conference offered a particularly extensive program with up to four parallel tracks, allowing participants to choose from a wide range of topics and technical presentations. In his talk \u201cMigrating Legacy & Proprietary Databases to PostgreSQL with credativ-pg-migrator<\/a>\u201d, our colleague Josef Machytka explained the challenges that can arise when migrating complex, proprietary database systems and the approaches required to address them. Using concrete examples, he showed that our tool credativ-pg-migrator already successfully demonstrated last year that migrations in the multi-terabyte range can also be implemented in a reproducible and automated manner. In addition, Josef addressed a frequently underestimated topic in his second talk: the actual memory usage of work_mem in PostgreSQL. In “Beyond work_mem Myths: A Source\u2011Code\u2011Guided Tour Through PostgreSQL Memory<\/a>”
he made it clear to the technically proficient audience that effective working memory consumption can be higher in many scenarios than initially assumed. He also emphasized that this is not misbehavior by PostgreSQL, but a deliberate design choice\u2014understanding it is crucial for developers and database administrators to operate the database efficiently and optimally.
Overall, the feedback on our presence and our services this year was consistently positive. <\/p>\n

In his talk “Digital Sovereignty in Europe: STACKIT as a Secure Cloud Alternative<\/a>“, Richard Siekmann<\/a> presented the credativ services available on the StackIT Marketplace<\/a> on his own slides. These currently include “Migration to PostgreSQL on STACKIT<\/a>” and “PostgreSQL Consulting and Support<\/a>“. We were very pleased by this special mention, as it underscores how our contributions are perceived within the community and the relevance of our solutions in the PostgreSQL ecosystem. <\/p>\n

Our colleague Mathis Rudolf also contributed his own session at the conference. In his lightning talk “PostgreSQL 19: Autovacuum scoring”, he provided a concise introduction to the topic of weighted autovacuum. He focused in particular on a new feature in PostgreSQL 19: the upcoming version introduces new configuration options that influence the order in which tables are processed by autovacuum. This opens up additional possibilities for fine-tuning maintenance behavior and optimizing performance and resource allocation in larger database systems. <\/p>\n

Overall, the quality of the talks was consistently very high, so each individual session offered valuable takeaways. Beyond the presentations, the conference also provided numerous opportunities for engaging professional exchange. At our booth, we had many in-depth and interesting conversations with visitors, for which we would like to express our sincere thanks. Direct dialogue with the community and participants was once again particularly valuable to us. <\/p>\n

The event was rounded off by excellent on-site organization; in particular, the event catering at Haus der Technik was outstanding and added the finishing touch to the overall positive impression. With this in mind, we are already looking forward to the upcoming PGConf.EU<\/a> in October in Valencia. <\/p>\n \n
